The three inmates built a tunnel to the roof of the prison through layers of metal grating and rebar.

We live in an age when just about everything that humans do has been recorded and shared online. And now we have one more scenario to add to that list: a prison break.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jonathan Tieu, 20, Bac Duong, 43, and Adam Hossein Nayeri, 38, filmed their own escape from Orange County Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana, California.

Nayeri was arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a Newport Beach marijuana dealer in 2012. The two others were arrested for gang-related assault and murder charges.

The three men escaped from the Orange County jail in January 2016, but the contraband cell phone video of their daring jailbreak has just been released by the inmates via Nayeri’s attorney.

The video depicts the men climbing through a tunnel they had carved through layers of steel grating and rebar, to reach the roof of the facility. From there, they used sheets they tied together to repel down the four floors to the ground.

The video then includes footage of the suspects over the next eight days following their escape, before they were arrested.

During these eight days, the suspects hijacked a taxi, forcing the cab driver to drive all the way to San Jose. They also stole a utility van from a seller off of Craigslist and brought it with them on their trip.

After debating whether or not to kill the cab driver, the three decided to let him live and bring the driver and his cab back to Los Angeles. Duong then decided to travel with the driver back to Santa Ana, where he then turned himself in to the police.

The other two escapees were arrested just two days later, their daring escape and ensuing escapades brought to a swift end.

Next, step inside the five worst prisons on the planet. Then, take a fascinating photo tour of Alcatraz, the most notorious prison in American history.
