Jason Everman: Rock Star Casualty, War Hero

Jason Everman

Though he was kicked out of Nirvana and Soundgarden on the cusp of their ascent to fame, guitarist Jason Everman achieved honor in a slightly less glamorous arena: the hills of Afghanistan. Swapping his guitar for a gun, Everman joined the Army 2nd Ranger Battalion and served as a member of the Special Forces. Honorably discharged in 2006, Everman went on to pursue a BA at Columbia University. How’d he get in to such a tough school? It might have had something to do with the fact that General Stanley A. McChrystal wrote him a letter of recommendation. Be sure to read more about him on the New York Times.
