If you want to take a step outside of space and time, Lake Baikal may be just the place for you. A number of geologists postulate that today’s Baikal shows what North American, African and European seaboards looked like as they started to separate millions of years ago. Below the lake’s surface (which is incredibly deep–Baikal is in fact the deepest freshwater lake in the world) is a wealth of truly bizarre creatures who were incredibly old before humans were even “thought of”.
