News About The Strange Incident At Dyatlov Pass

In 1959, a group of college students from the Soviet Union’s Ural Polytechnical Institute ventured into the Russian wilderness on a hiking trip, only to never be seen again.

The group — comprised of skilled hikers and scientists — set out to cover 190 miles of the Ural Mountains in 16 days, in order to reach a distant village and send a telegram to complete their journey. But they never came back.

Six days after a search party was sent out to look for them, the hikers were found — but their discovery raised more questions, as their bodies were found in a mysterious state.

Some of them looked like they had been ripped apart (one woman was missing her tongue, her eyes and parts of her lips), while another looked as though he’d been crushed. Only a car could have done the amount of damage found on his body, but there were no cars around for miles.

A criminal investigation was opened upon the discovery of the bodies, but for the past 50-odd years, no official cause of death has been determined. Authorities simply blamed the “spontaneous power of nature,” and the case remained a mystery known only as the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

That is until this year. For the first time since the initial investigation, Russia has begun to look into the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

“Relatives, the media, and the public still ask prosecutors to determine the truth and don’t hide their suspicions that something was hidden from them,” Alexander Kurennoi, the official representative of Russia’s Prosecutor General told CNN.

The case is ongoing and hasn’t resulted in any clear answers yet — but stay tuned.
