Robert Ressler, or Bill Tench on the Netflix series, got the attention of Douglas while working on the Bundy case.

As an agent-in-training at the F.B.I. academy, Ressler worked up a profile of Bundy. Following the psychological profile, the F.B.I. placed the serial killer on the 10 most wanted list in February of 1978.

Ressler believed Bundy looked for young women with long hair parted down the middle. The serial killer also hung out at bars, ski resorts, beaches and other locations where young people gathered.

Five days after this profile went public on the top 10 most wanted list, authorities in Florida arrested Bundy. He was executed for his murders in 1989.

Interestingly enough, it was Ressler who coined the term ‘serial killer.’ Much like Douglas, Ressler also wrote a book on his 20-year experience with the F.B.I.’s special unit called Whoever Fights Monsters. Together with Douglas, the pair took the science of criminal psychology to new levels when tracking America’s most violent people.
